On the 18^th of October, 2013, the community of Morisset came together and put on their dancing shoes for a night of fast paced fun. The afternoon started off at 4:30PM with Indian Stick and Scarf dancing - a style used in festivals - with the ladies from Chakras Performing Arts. First, colourful scarves were tied around the body and rhythmic sticks were used in time with the music. Afterwards, small hand scarves were used to dance with. The audience was then shown Indian Hip Hop style moves and participated in a small routine. Then at 5:30PM began the faced paced Zumba workout with Jodi. The Zumbatomic workshop was primarily focused on fitness and workout, to upbeat, world music - as well as well-known songs like: ‘Titanium’. Dance steps included jumping, moving, and wiggling in time to the music. The evening finished off with a Hip Hop workshop with Miss Tiff from MADdance, starting off the class with a stretching exercise. She taught the class some dance moves like ‘The Helicopter’, and ‘The Shuffle’, along with a few dancing games and exercises. Drinks, quiches, cupcakes and sausage rolls were available (and popular!) on the day from Busy Baking. At the end of the day, everybody was exhausted but had lots of fun.

If you love to DANCE, then brush off those dancing shoes and come along on Friday 18 October to Morisset PCYC to join in with our exciting art2264 “DANCE MOOVES” event, starting from 4.30pm– 7.30pm.

The afternoon begins with a specialist dance class in TRADITIONAL INDIAN DANCE (Bollywood style) using scarfs and decorative sticks run by Chakras Performing Arts from Newcastle from 4.30pm.

At 5.30pm, join in with Jodi Willet’s high octane workouts in a ZUMBATOMIC DANCE CLASS with a fast –forward fusion of a mix of salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, hip hop dance styles and more. Fun for both boys and girls!

The diverse evening will finish up with a class in HIP HOP + STREET MOOVES with Miss Tiffany from Morisset’s MAD Dance from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Theatre Sports Skills -Friday 20 September 2013

The Stage called the local Community together on the 20^th of September for the PCYC Theatre Sports with Janine, Sophie and Manik. The event began with Janine and her Senior assistants Gemma and Emma from Drama Karma. Children used their imagination to create scenarios for the Seniors to recreate. Scenes included blindfolded leg operations and superheroes catching robbers… with a twist. The event continued with Sophie and Manik. Introductions of the group by name and crazy poses were had. Well known stories such as Cinderella and the Three Little pigs took on a new genre such as Action or Romantic as imagination brought the stories to life on stage. Known characters such as the Queen had substituted hands. Sophie and Manik split the group into teams of 8 with wacky judges Mr Margarine, Goldilocks and Bob. The competitive final event was won by 1 point but everyone walked home with a gold medal. They were all winners simply for participating. Cakes, rolls and slices were available from Busy Baking at the event. Shelly was busy with the art table as kids reshaped the pieces of clay to their imagination, creating things like echidnas using wooden sticks with it. Colourful Craft and card making was also available! Overall the event was fun and energetic.

Roll up, Roll up, Roll up, for all thrills, spills and dramatic exclamations !!!! as Morisset PCYC winds up for its hugely popular Theatre Skills Event featuring the regions bestest and most popular workshop tutors for an outrageously fun way to start the Spring School Holidays!

Join us for an amazing evening of non stop theatre with our local school Drama Karma (from Morisset from 4.30pm) and by popular demand, some of our most popular drama tutors Sophie Cook & Manik Jones return to Morisset PCYC from 5.30-7.30pm.

Magician/performance artist Manik Jones and acting coach/actress Sophie Cook will be taking a fun-tastic theatre sports workshop that will compliment Drama Karma's intro to theatre sports and culminate in a mini 'competition' for family and friends to enjoy! 

The kids will learn a handful of improvisation acting games that will help hone their acting skills and challenge them to be in the moment and make offers. Sophie will drum in some of the rules of theatre sports and the key to improvisation, always saying "Yes!" 

At 6.15pm two teams will go head to head in a Theatre Sports competition battling out the exercises we explored in the earlier workshops. Three judges will score the two teams, like Australia's got Talent! Which team will take out the award for best theatre sports dudes in Morisset 2013!!?

"Performing Art Mix"- DANCE, MUSIC, DRAMA

On the 16^th of August the Morisset Community came together again to participate in the Performing Arts Mix, that latest art2264@MorissetPCYC event.

The Deborah Lee Dance Academy started off the event with a Hip Hop dance workshop. Each dance was broken down into steps to create a dance routine. Then a change into the black, blue and pink costumes was made, as the performance of ‘Grease’ was performed which included songs from the soundtrack.

Following the dance hour, ‘Arcadia Vale Public School and Friends’ arrived with instrument cases of all shapes and sizes for an hour of mixed music performances. The concert band performed songs such as ‘Man from Snowy River’ and ‘March Royale’ for the audience. A highlight of the evening was Lily Fox’s performance as she sang a few delightful songs including ‘Tomorrow.’

Janine from Drama Karma, made an appearance with her Drama workshops for the kids (and some older participants too!) for the final hour of all things dramatic! They made up characters on the go, participated in theatre sports and used their imagination to create stories out of props.

Other activities included a craft table (making performing arts masks) and the PCYC Gaming Van- both of which were very busy all evening. ‘Busy Baking’s’ delicious treats included, home-made sausage rolls, cupcakes and slices for the audience to enjoy.

Art2264@morissetpcyc is free for all participants, however it is expected for attendees of the program to become a member of Morisset PCYC. A once time fee is required for yearly membership:  For juniors (under 18), it is $10 - and for 18 and over it is $20. HIP HOP DANCE WORKSHOP + performance of ‘Grease’ 4.30pm– 5.30pm

Where learning to dance is fun and building self confidence is important! Deborah Lee Dance Academy has been operating in Morisset for over 25 years. They have held concerts, performed at Eisteddfords, undertaken Stage Works, conduct dance exams for various levels, and make special performaces like the one you will see at art2264s Performing Arts Mix!. Deborah Lee Dance Academy teaches across the dance disciplines of Jazz, Tap, Classical, Modern and Contemporary, Hip Hop, Funk and runs special boys classes as well. Toronto Learning Communities (TLC) Schools Band          5.30pm– 6.30pm

Toronto Learning Communities (TLC) Combined Schools Band perform several times a year with their highlight being special performances during Education Week each year. TLC performed at Art2264 in July 2012 and we welcome them back again for our huge 2013 showcase event, ‘Performing Arts Mix’. With students gleaned from school bands across the West Lake Macquarie area, the TLC band represents the best of the best when it comes to young students playing within school concert bands and ensembles.

DRAMA KARMA—theatre sports and games                     6.30pm– 7.30pm

Running classes in Morisset since 2008, Drama Karma prides itself on allowing young people to develop confidence, performance skills and a creative imagination in a fun and safe environment! Drama Karma is run by Janine Sneddon who joined the performing arts world over 18 years ago.  The Drama karma workshop will concentrate in the area of theatre sports and performance providing an opportunity for all to enjoy the fun and creative world of drama. Drama Karma Classes explore areas such as mime, script work, theatre-sports, workshopping performance pieces, movement, voice, public speaking, eisteddfod work, improvisation.......and much more!!!! Join in the fun at “Performing Arts Mix” and learn some theatre Sports games and more with the troop from Drama Karma!
